WA Labor will deliver a new Department of Transport driver and vehicle licensing centre to support Perth’s growing southeast.
The new centre will be built in the Armadale/Byford area, significantly expanding capacity in the region.
The only centre currently operational in the region is the Kelmscott Driving Assessment Centre which only undertakes driver assessments.
People in the region seeking in-person support for all other driver and vehicle services must travel to either Cannington, Success or Rockingham.
Perth’s southeast continues to grow rapidly, with thousands of new residents moving to the Byford area every year.
The new licensing centre would support a range of services including:
The delivery of the new licence centre will further bolster changes made by the Cook Labor Government to address increased demand from learner drivers, including upgrades to booking systems, a new dedicated driver assessment centre in Joondalup, a boost in the number of driving assessors, and the delivery of the landmark Driving Access and Equity Program.
A suitable site for the new facility will be selected in the region following consultation with the community and key stakeholders.
Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:
“Perth’s southeast is one of the fastest growing in the State, and the delivery of a new licensing centre will be critical to supporting residents in the area."
“The only Department of Transport facility in the region is the Kelmscott Driving Assessment Centre, which means locals in the southeast must travel a significant distance to access other vehicle and licensing services."
“This new centre will also support residents throughout the Armadale and Byford areas, particularly those seeking to obtain a drivers licence by boosting the number of driving assessors we have available.”
