What we're doing to help Western Australians with the cost of living

Rising interest rates mean people all over Australia are struggling with cost of living pressures.

It’s why delivering cost of living relief is our top priority.

Here are some of the things we're doing to help Western Australians with the cost of living

Delivering household electricity credits

Every Western Australian household will receive at least $700 this year in power bill relief.

This takes the total power bill assistance provided over recent years to at least $2,100.

We're also providing additional support for those who need it most - with around 300,000 households eligible for Energy Assistance Payments, including pensioners, veterans and Health Care Card holders.

Making public transport more affordable

We’ve capped public transport fares, so no one in the Perth metro area will have to pay more than a 2-zone fare - no matter where they travel.

We’ve also made public transport free for students going to and from school - and free for everyone on Sundays.

Cutting the cost of education

We've made 130 TAFE courses free across a range of key industries, so more West Aussies can access world-class training.

In addition to the Fee Free courses there are over 160 high priority courses that have had their course fees reduced by up to 72 percent through our Lower Fees, Local Skills initiatives.

What else we're doing to help the cost of living

  • Introduced a regional airfare cap, making airfares more affordable for regional West Australians.
  • Delivered the WA Student Assistance Payment - with $150 for every primary school student and $250 for every high school student.
  • Introduced the WA Rent Relief Program to help financially vulnerable tenants at risk of eviction remain in their homes with rental assistance of up to $5,000
  • Boosted the seniors' cost of living rebate to $107 for singles and $160 for couples to help ease some of those cost of living pressures.
  • Boosted our KidSport vouchers to $500 - helping more WA kids get involved with community sport.
  • Rolled out free period products in all public primary schools, high schools and TAFE campuses across the State - because getting your period should never be a barrier to getting a good education.
  • Upped the Regional Pensioner Travel Card by $100 to $675 - helping older residents in regional WA to pay for fuel and travel.
  • Rolled out the $300 secondary school Clothing Allowance, so families in need have one less school expense to worry about.
  • Introduced $1,000 milestone payments for apprentices in building and construction.
  • Ensuring WA families can get out and about over the school holidays with free tickets to the Perth Royal Show and Perth Zoo.
  • Helping WA kids learn to swim safely by making VacSwim free over the summer holidays.
  • Saving WA seniors four cents a litre on fuel at United service stations right across Australia as part of our new partnered with United Petroleum.
