  • Re-elected Cook Labor Government to fund $5 million towards new affordable key worker accommodation for Kununurra
  • Commitment to help attract and retain childcare and other workers to deliver vital services
  • Project backed by Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley, with land and financial contribution for the remaining costs of the project

A re-elected Cook Labor Government will invest $5 million towards the delivery of new affordable housing for childcare and other key workers in Kununurra.

WA Labor's commitment will enable construction of 10 two-bedroom and four one-bedroom quality affordable rental accommodation dwellings in town.

The new builds will support provision of essential services as well as eligible small businesses by boosting affordable accommodation available for their workers. This includes assisting local childcare centres to recruit and retain staff and continue to support the local workforce with more childcare places.

The project is backed by the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley, which will contribute the land located at the proposed site on the corner of Water Lily Place and Casuarina Way and the remaining costs of the $7.9 million project.

Once constructed, the key worker housing will be managed by the Shire, including allocating the housing and collecting the rent from residents, with rental income to cover its administration costs.

WA Labor's $5 million commitment builds on the Cook Labor Government's record investment in boosting housing supply and affordability in the Kimberley and right across the State.
