A re-elected Cook Labor Government will commit $200,000 towards the development of an all-abilities fishing jetty in Albany.

The funding will enable an appropriate site to be selected, with Emu Point the preferred location given the area is well regarded by the local community as a quality fishing spot.

Planning work will identify exactly where a new fishing jetty is best delivered for the local community, in addition to further work to refine the scope of the project.

The new facility will benefit all fishers, but in particular provide a quality new facility for people with disability, enabling Fishability Albany to continue to deliver local programs for the community.

The announcement reaffirms WA Labor’s commitment to supporting recreational fishing as one of the most popular recreational activities in the country.

Comments attributed to Fisheries Minister Don Punch:

“Recreational fishing is an incredibly popular pastime for Western Australians and a fantastic way to get outdoors and enjoy what our beautiful State has to offer."

“That’s why WA Labor will commit to planning for a new all-abilities fishing jetty in Albany, which will provide more opportunity for people to get involved in this great activity."

“It builds on WA Labor's commitment right across the State to not only ensure Western Australians have the infrastructure to participate in fishing activities, but that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy it, too.”

Comments attributed to Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:

“Albany is known for its incredible fishing spots right along the coast, so it’s no surprise it’s such a popular pastime for locals."

“If I’m re-elected as the Member for Albany, I look forward to seeing this project come to life and deliver fantastic outcomes for our fishing community.”
