Local motorsport clubs in Geraldton will benefit from $320,000 in funding under WA Labor.

A re-elected Cook Labor Government will commit $220,000 towards essential infrastructure upgrades at Geraldton City Speedway, which will boost capacity to host larger events.

It includes upgrades to toilet blocks, improved disability access on both the back straight and pit area, and a new shower and change facility in the pit area to provide a comfortable and professional space for competitors.

A further $100,000 will be provided to the Midwest Kart Club to establish standalone medical facilities with air conditioning and hot running water, helping to ensure the club is up to Australian standard for events and competitions.

These investments form part of a re-elected WA Labor’s overarching motorsports package, which for the first time will see grassroots clubs receive a major coordinated funding boost to improve kart clubs, speedways and motorcycle clubs around the State.

Comments attributed to Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti:

“Local sporting clubs are the beating heart of the community, and ensuring they have quality facilities is critical."

“This investment is about making motorsport and karting more accessible and safer for the local community, while attracting more people to these sports."

“Only Roger Cook and WA Labor have runs on the board to do what’s right and deliver for Geraldton and the Mid West.”

Comments attributed to Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton:

“This is a great boost for both these clubs who continue to grow their membership, and is indicative of how important they are to our community."

“It will be fantastic to see more sporting clubs yet again receive funding for an upgrade under Roger Cook and WA Labor, delivering another win for Geraldton and surrounds.”
