A re-elected Cook Labor Government will expand delivery of Government Regional Officer Housing (GROH) in the Goldfields, as part of a new $145 million commitment to accelerating delivery of homes for regional Western Australians.

WA Labor’s Regional Housing package will fund delivery of an additional 20 GROH homes in the Goldfields for teachers, police and other government workers delivering essential services in the region.

The Goldfields is one of five regions to benefit from WA Labor’s $104 million commitment to construct more than 100 additional two-bedroom, three-bedroom and four-bedroom GROH homes in regional WA, with the new dwellings to add to the region’s overall housing stock.

The overall package also includes a $25 million Regional Housing Support Fund, which will provide grants of up to $5 million to unlock and bring forward new housing projects and land supply in the Goldfields and throughout regional WA.

The new grants will support new key worker, community housing, local government, regional subdivision and other regional housing projects, assisting with costs such as construction, earthworks, decontamination and gas, telecommunications and other infrastructure connections Goldfields first homebuyers will also benefit from increased stamp duty relief, resulting in savings of up to $17,765, with no transfer duty to be payable on homes purchased up to a value of $500,000 (up from $450,000).

Under the changes, regional first homebuyers purchasing a home valued up to $750,000 (up from $600,000) will pay a reduced rate. Stamp duty thresholds will also be lifted for purchases of vacant land valued up to $350,000 (up from $300,000) to encourage more regional housing supply.

WA Labor’s $145 million Regional Housing package builds on the Cook Labor Government’s record investment in boosting housing supply and choice, including delivery of new and refurbished social housing and GROH homes in the Goldfields, and the release of residential lots at Kalgoorlie-Boulder's Karlkurla estate.

Comments attributed to Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti:

“Our new Regional Housing package will support the delivery of hundreds of homes and potentially thousands of lots in regional WA, including in the Goldfields region."

“Only a re-elected Cook Labor Government has a credible plan to accelerate housing supply and deliver more GROH homes to support essential service delivery in WA's Goldfields.”

Comments attributed to Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

“The Cook Labor Government has worked hard to get more homes built in Kalgoorlie-Boulder."

“We know there is a need for additional housing stock, which is why we are making this commitment to unlock new housing projects and build more GROH for teachers, police and other workers delivering essential services for local residents.”
