A re-elected Cook Labor Government will invest $7.7 million towards redeveloping and upgrading Coolgardie’s main street.

The works would include the construction of new parallel parking bays and pedestrian crossings, road resurfacing, upgrading culverts and drainage to reduce flooding, more visual aids and road markings, as well as consideration of new public art, footpaths and lighting.

Forming part of the National Highway system, Coolgardie’s main street experiences a high volume of freight vehicles.

The upgrades would improve the amenity of the street, make it safer for pedestrians and other road users, and encourage more tourists to stop off in the town, supporting local businesses.

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Coolgardie is an incredible town with so much history, and these important upgrades to the main street will help drive new visitation to the town, which will boost small businesses.

“WA Labor knows this project is a priority for the Coolgardie community, and that’s why we will deliver these important upgrades.”

Comments attributed to Member for Kalgoorlie Ali Kent:

“Whenever I visit Coolgardie, this project is always high on the priority list, and this $7.7 million commitment will ensure we get the works underway."

“Improving the amenity and safety of Coolgardie’s main street will deliver a major boost for the town, both during construction and after completion.”
