A re-elected WA Labor Government will continue its significant investment in the Albany and Great Southern road network, with major upgrades to a key freight route servicing the city.
The $50 million commitment will see nearly 12 kilometres of South Coast Highway upgraded between Cheyne’s Road and Kojaneerup, including complete reconstruction, widening and the installation of audible edge lines, making the road safer and more efficient.
The upgrades will include 8.28 kilometres north of Cheynes Road and 3.3 kilometres north of Warriup Road.
The commitment comes on the back of several major road projects delivered by the WA Labor Government in recent years including the $215 million Albany Ring Road and upgrades to 115 kilometres of South Coast Highway as part of the landmark Regional Road Safety Program.
The WA Labor Government also completed $30 million worth of upgrades to 11 kilometres of South Coast Highway in 2021.
In the past four financial years, the WA Labor Government has invested a record $268 million into Albany’s transport network.
If re-elected, the WA Labor Government would seek Commonwealth contributions towards the project.
