A re-elected WA Labor Government will commit $12.5 million towards a new community sport hub in

Bellevue.

Led by community organisation Binar Futures, the project will include eight basketball and netball courts, a gymnasium, a health and education centre and a First Nations Sporting Hall of Fame.

A parcel of land currently owned by the State Government will also be provided for the hub on the corner of Henkin and Clayton Streets in Bellevue.

Around 1,300 students are expected to use the facilities once construction is complete.

Binar Futures works to empower Aboriginal youth through sport, engaging young people in the Midland area and throughout the State with basketball clinics, carnivals and other activities to promote positive lifestyles.

This State Government contribution will allow Binar Futures to seek additional funding support from third parties, including private entities and other levels of government.

Comments attributed to Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti:

“Sport has the incredible ability to bring people together, encourage healthy and active lifestyles and develop resilience."

“We also know there are enormous benefits in having modern, state-of-the-art sporting facilities for young people in our communities, which is why WA Labor is committing to this new hub in Bellevue."

“A re-elected WA Labor Government will always do what’s right by our local communities and invest in the things that matter, helping to keep them safe and strong.”

Comments attributed to WA Labor Candidate for Midland Steve Catania:

“A hub like this will not only help our young people to develop their sporting skills, it will also become another support system and network to help them grow and build a positive future."

“Binar Futures is a fantastic community organisation helping young Aboriginal people through sport, and if elected, I look forward to working with them closely on this project and helping to deliver it.”
