A re-elected Cook Labor Government will invest $30 million in changeroom upgrades, equipment and events to encourage more women and girls to get involved in community sport. WA Labor’s commitment includes a new $6 million Boosting Women and Girls’ Participation in Sport program to drive more local participation from women and girls.

The grants program will provide local clubs and associations with funding to upgrade facilities, run try-out and registration events to promote their sports and attract new players, buy equipment and travel to competitions.

It will be complemented by an additional $24 million investment in improvements to women’s changerooms and other facilities at community sporting clubs across Western Australia to break down barriers to women getting involved.

This major new infrastructure package will deliver upgrades to women’s sporting facilities at:

  • Troy Park, Attadale;
  • Winnacott Reserve, Willagee;
  • Riverton Reserve, Riverton;
  • Mount Helena Oval, Mount Helena;
  • Sir Ross McLarty Oval, Pinjarra;
  • Ellenbrook District Open Space, Ellenbrook;
  • Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club, Madeley;
  • Scarborough Football Club, Karrinyup;
  • South Perth Rugby League Club – George Burnett playing fields, Karawara;
  • Ferndale Reserve, Ferndale;
  • Balga Soccer Club - Princess Wallington Reserve, Balga;
  • Joondalup Sports Association, Iluka; and
  • Additional regional sporting clubs, to be announced soon.

WA Labor’s Women’s Sport package builds on the unprecedented work already undertaken by the Cook Labor Government to enhance women’s facilities and changerooms at community sporting clubs.

Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:

“More women are playing sport in Western Australia than ever before and local clubs need to provide spaces to cater for them, including safe and appropriate changing facilities."

“Our new Women’s Sport package includes funding for more community sporting clubs across the State to deliver essential upgrades and get the settings right to keep women engaged in their communities and staying active."

“This commitment will give more WA women a sporting chance of enjoying spending time at their local club and reaching their full potential on the field."

“Only WA Labor has a plan to remove the barriers we know are turning many women off sport and help community sporting venues provide women with the quality facilities they need.”
