  • WA Labor to permanently discount all Transwa services by 50%
  • Transwa services connect to 240 destinations across the State
  • Passengers will save more than $100 on some trips to destinations in regional WA
  • Cheaper fares will provide cost of living relief and encourage greater visitation to the regions

WA Labor has today committed to a major overhaul of Transwa fares, announcing it will permanently discount all fares by 50 per cent.

The initiative will help ease cost-of-living pressures, as well as support local economies and small businesses by encouraging greater visitation to regional towns and cities across the State.

Transwa bus and train services connect to 240 destinations across regional Western Australia including Bunbury, Kalbarri, Kalgoorlie, Albany and Esperance.

The changes mean someone travelling between Kalgoorlie and Perth on the Prospector will save $100 on a return journey, while someone travelling between Esperance and Perth will save $107 on a return trip.

The changes will also make bus and train travel more economical for regional trips, helping take cars off regional roads.

The changes come on top of the Cook Labor Government’s landmark Regional Airfare Zone

Cap scheme, which has been saving regional families thousands of dollars every year.

The new Transwa fares would take effect from 1 January 2026, in line with WA Labor’s commitment to introduce the suburban flat fare for all public transport across the State.

A re-elected Cook Labor Government will invest $13 million over the forward estimates to deliver the Transwa fare reforms.

Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:

"Delivering cost-of-living relief for WA families is our top priority."

"These changes will not only help regional families who make regular use of Transwa services, they will encourage more people to visit our incredible regional destinations and support their local businesses"

"WA Labor will continue to do what’s right for all communities across our State, and these reforms build upon our landmark Regional Airfare Zone Cap scheme, which has been saving regional families thousands of dollars on the cost of airfares.”
