A re-elected Cook Labor Government will invest $2.8 million to improve facilities at the popular Geraldton Netball Association.

The funding includes:

  • $2.5 million towards the addition of one new indoor court;
  • $250,000 for lights on the outdoor courts, which will allow for resurfacing to take place at the same time; and
  • $61,000 for large fans for the indoor court.

The existing facilities are ageing and at capacity, with 10 outdoor courts and one indoor court used by over 1,900 members from eight different clubs each week, including from Dongara and Northampton.

The Geraldton Netball Association also regularly hosts local primary schools, as well as year-round social competitions.

The announcement reflects WA Labor’s commitment to improving sporting facilities across the State and builds on the Cook Labor Government’s unprecedented investment in local infrastructure to help more Western Australians play sport and stay connected to their communities.

“Sporting clubs are the lifeblood of our local and regional communities, bringing people together and providing opportunities to stay active and engaged."

“We want every Western Australian to have opportunities to participate in sport and recreation that they enjoy."

“WA Labor has invested unprecedented amounts in community sport and local infrastructure, and we look forward to continuing on that record if re-elected.”

Comments attributed to Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton:

“These major upgrades will help to ensure more people from Geraldton and surrounds are able to participate and engage in community sport, whether they’re on the court or cheering from the sideline.”
