Premier Roger Cook has today launched the Made in WA plan, setting out WA Labor’s vision to keep WA’s economy strong, put manufacturing back at the heart of the economy, make more things in WA and create the jobs of the future.

Made in WA is a comprehensive economic vision, building on the strong economy built by WA Labor over the past eight years and setting out a plan to create the jobs of the future in WA.

Made in WA is underpinned by key investments and policies which will see a re-elected Cook Labor Government delivering a program of work to:

  • make more things locally
  • make WA a renewable energy powerhouse
  • deliver infrastructure to attract more job-creating industries across WA
  • bring freight rail back into Government hands
  • broaden and diversify the WA economy, and
  • invest in training a pipeline of skilled workers

A re-elected Cook Labor Government will allocate a further $500 million in the $1 billion Strategic Industries Fund to activate Strategic Industrial Areas across the State to fast track clean energy and major industrial projects.

This investment will unlock the industrial land required to get projects off the ground across the State’s major jobs precincts.

WA Labor’s Made in WA outlines the next steps to power clean energy as well as supply the materials required for the world’s clean energy transition.

This includes $75 million to begin making major energy infrastructure in WA by establishing new Western Power manufacturing facilities in the South West and in Forrestfield.

A re-elected Cook Labor Government will invest in major job creating industries and projects, including:

  • Advanced manufacturing, like rail cars and wind turbines
  • Clean energy projects, like green iron, household and big batteries, and lithium and rare earth refineries
  • AUKUS, which is the biggest Western Australian defence project in our State’s history

To deliver these jobs of tomorrow, WA will require skills – some old and some new.

Made in WA outlines a re-elected Cook Labor Government’s plan to skill up younger generations to ensure they can make the most of the opportunities ahead.

More than 343,000 jobs have been created under WA Labor since 2017, and WA has the best performing economy in the nation.

Made in WA has been built on strong economic foundations and provides a plan to future-proof the State and keep the WA economy in pole position.

Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:

“Our WA Labor Government has always been proudly jobs-focused, and the proof is in our record.

“WA Labor has made WA’s economy the strongest in the nation. We have established strong economic foundations – and we can do more, with a steady hand at the wheel.

“We can make more things here for the benefit of all Western Australians.

“More local manufacturing will grow the local supply chain and means more quality jobs for WA.

“Made in WA outlines the investments and policies we need to ensure every Western Australian has quality job opportunities and Western Australia can thrive in an evolving global economy.

“Made in WA is about preparing for that future. It’s a choice to build more here, rather than offshoring our skills and capability.

“Only my WA Labor Government has the experience to deliver our Made in WA plan and to do what’s right for WA.”
