Liberals and Nationals hide election commitment costings

The Liberals and Nationals continue to treat the WA public with contempt by refusing to detail who will undertake the costing of their commitments.

The Liberals and Nationals continue to treat the WA public with contempt by refusing to detail who will undertake the costing of their commitments.

It comes as WA Treasury has released its independent assessment of WA Labor’s major election commitments to date, with a net debt impact of less than $2.1 billion over the forward estimates.

An independent and transparent costing process provides the community with confidence the commitments being made by political parties during the campaign are sustainable and deliverable.

The Liberals and Nationals have now racked up uncosted election commitments approaching $9 billion, around $7 billion more than WA Labor’s independently costed commitments.

With only 11 days until pre-polling begins, the refusal to release details on who will cost their commitments or when they will be released highlights the inexperience, chaos and dysfunction of the Liberals and Nationals – and the risk they pose to our State’s future.

Comments attributed to Treasurer Rita Saffioti:

“The arrogant refusal of the Liberals and Nationals to outline who will undertake the assessment of their election commitments, or when they will be released, is treating the community like fools."

“It’s now dawned on the Liberals and Nationals that their reckless spending on election commitments has been completely unsustainable, and they’re hoping that by releasing at the last minute they will avoid any scrutiny."

“If the Liberals and Nationals get back into government, they will break many of the commitments they’ve made, make desperate cuts to critical programs and initiatives, and run our State’s finances into the ground."

“The Liberals and Nationals will trash the State’s bottom line and undo all the good work WA Labor has done fixing the finances and rebuilding our economy."

“The Liberals and Nationals are inexperienced, chaotic and dysfunctional, and simply cannot be trusted to manage the State's finances."
