Geraldton will be a key focus of WA Labor’s Made in WA plan, with enormous potential for the Mid West city to become a major hub for local manufacturing.

With a burgeoning local ship-building industry, and a growing renewable energy sector – Geraldton would see massive economic upside and job creation under WA Labor’s plan to build more things in Western Australia.

Located adjacent to some of WA’s key wind zones, Geraldton and the Mid West are ideally placed to leverage manufacturing of wind turbines and components.

There is a series of major wind projects being developed in the region to support the Cook Labor Government’s decarbonisation program, while the Clean Energy Link – North project will provide major electricity transmission infrastructure from the metro area to Three Springs.

Local shipbuilding is already a significant industry in Geraldton, but a shift to more local manufacturing would potentially position the Mid West city as a regional powerhouse in the sector, and grow local jobs.

The delivery of the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area, and plans for the delivery of biofuels also present significant economic opportunity for Geraldton and the Mid West.

WA Labor’s Made in WA plan is underpinned by key investments and policies which will see a re-elected Cook Labor Government delivering a program of work to:

  • make more things locally
  • make WA a renewable energy powerhouse
  • deliver infrastructure to attract more job-creating industries across WA
  • bring freight rail back into Government hands
  • broaden and diversify the WA economy, and
  • invest in training a pipeline of skilled workers

More than 343,000 jobs have been created under WA Labor since 2017, and WA has the best performing economy in the nation.

Made in WA has been built on strong economic foundations and provides a plan to futureproof the State and keep the WA economy in pole position.
