A re-elected Cook Labor Government will invest $1 million in a new spur trail off the Munda Biddi, supporting the growth of the trail tourism industry in Harvey and surrounds.

The new track will take adventure cyclists through 45 km of scenic bushland, trailing off the Munda Biddi at Lake Brockman and passing Harvey Dam before looping back to the main route.

The Cook Labor Government has already contributed $25,000 for planning for the new trail. Today’s funding announcement will enable the Shire of Harvey to deliver the upgrade, which has been identified as a key priority for the local area.

Trails tourism continues to grow in popularity across the State – with the pristine environments of Harvey and the wider South West making them the perfect places to further develop this job-creating industry.

Today’s commitment builds on the Cook Labor Government’s $165 million investment in adventure tourism, including upgraded boating facilities, campgrounds, trails, and tourist attractions to encourage regional tourism and diversify regional economies across the State.

Comments attributed to Environment Minister Reece Whitby:

“This new spur trail will ensure more people can experience the scenic bushland and unique landscapes of the Harvey area, supporting local tourism and hospitality businesses to thrive."

“Only a WA Labor Government will invest in the regional infrastructure needed to build strong and resilient communities, diversify the economy and create great local jobs.”

Comments attributed to Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:

“Trails tourism delivers significant economic benefits for Murray-Wellington and the new Munda Biddi spur trail will bring even more cyclists to Harvey and surrounds in years to come."

“Our region’s world-class network of trails is a testament to the Cook Labor Government’s support for adventure tourism in the South West.”
