Centre refuge, supporting women to leave dangerous perpetrators and breaking the cycle of family and domestic violence (FDV).
The $10.7 million commitment will fund six extra units at the centre, providing fit-for-purpose emergency accommodation for vulnerable victim-survivors and their children.
An additional $1.6 million will be invested to establish the Safe at Home program in Albany – supporting victim-survivors to safely stay in their own homes after a perpetrator has been removed.
Today’s announcement is part of the Cook Labor Government’s $38.6 million FDV package, which also includes reforms to the Restraining Orders Act, making our FVRO regime tougher for perpetrators and easier for victim-survivors engaging in the justice process.
The announcement builds on the Cook Labor Government’s proven record of action to end the scourge of FDV, with more than $550 million in additional investment since 2017.
During the same period refuge capacity has also been increased by around 30 per cent.
