Fire and rescue volunteers in Argyle will soon get a new, upgraded headquarters, thanks to a WA Labor election commitment to bolster fire fighting capacity in the region.
A re-elected Cook Labor Government will build a new $1.6 million facility for the Argyle Irishtown Bush Fire Brigade, replacing their ageing building on Knights Road which is no longer fit for purpose.
The Argyle Irishtown Bush Fire Brigade is the biggest volunteer brigade in the region, with around 60 members who give up their time to keep the community safe.
The new headquarters will be situated at the junction of Argyle Road and the South Western Highway in Argyle, giving the station direct access to South Western Highway to support faster response times.
The commitment builds on the Cook Labor Government’s proven track record of supporting emergency services across WA, with more than $150 million invested in new firefighting appliances, expanding the aerial fleet, and upgrading equipment and facilities since 2017.
If re-elected, WA Labor will also establish a new State Bushfire Mitigation Branch within DFES to focus on bushfire prevention and mitigation.
