A re-elected Cook Labor Government will deliver a $60 million infrastructure upgrade to Albany Health Campus in the next term of Government with a brand-new modular ward, adding 30 additional beds.

The new modular ward will almost double the number of inpatient beds at Albany Health Campus, freeing up capacity across the hospital.

Albany Health Campus currently has 36 inpatient beds made up of 20 medical inpatient beds and 16 mental health inpatient beds, in addition to the Emergency Department, Short-Stay Beds, and 6-bed Intensive Care and High Dependency Unit.

Similar modular wards have been built at other WA hospitals and are an innovative way to deliver extra capacity at an operating hospital quickly.

Modular wards are strategically positioned near existing infrastructure to help manage patient flow.

The new 30-bed modular ward is expected to include a mix of single and twin bedrooms, a patient lounge, staff offices and reception facilities.

The $60 million commitment under Roger Cook and WA Labor will go towards the new 30-bed ward, which will also result in the addition of at least 60 new staff to the hospital comprised of doctors, nurses and allied health specialists.

Works to the hospital car park expansion which will see an additional 100 bays added to the site are now underway. The project includes new wayfinding, pathways and crosswalks, as well as CCTV and security lighting.

“In addition to the $60 million investment towards the 30-bed modular ward, under a Government I lead we will also be bolstering staffing at Albany Health Campus."

“Our health staff do remarkable work in our hospitals and community and I thank them for their service to Albany and the region."

“I want to acknowledge the advocacy of local legend and WA Labor member Rebecca Stephens for continuing to champion significant improvements to and investments in quality infrastructure and services for the Albany community.”

“I welcome this commitment of a massive investment and upgrade from Roger Cook and WA Labor to our Albany Health Campus."

“Adding a modular ward to an existing regional hospital has been tried and tested and was successfully delivered at Bunbury Hospital in 2022 so I look forward to working with the Government to deliver this significant expansion if re-elected."

“Being Albany born and raised, I can say Albany is an incredible place to live and work.

“This big expansion for our Albany Health Campus will serve our community well into the future and also create new work opportunities for people to join us to live locally in Albany and the Great Southern.”
