Key health services in the Pilbara will receive a $54 million boost under a re-elected Cook Labor Government, supporting better health outcomes for local residents.

Announced today, WA Labor will invest $44.2 million to establish an eight chair dialysis facility in Karratha, supported by a new 16 bed renal hostel.

The service will allow locals to access treatment closer to home, and address growing demand for dialysis in the Pilbara, easing pressure on existing services.

In addition, the Cook Labor Government will contribute $10 million towards a new, expanded facility for the Wirraka Maya (WM) Aboriginal Health Service in South Hedland.

WM provide culturally appropriate care for patients in Hedland and surrounding remote communities and the new facility will enable them to expand their services and outreach programs, including renal dialysis and dental.

The Pilbara will also benefit from WA Labor’s $14 million commitment for women’s health centres across the State, supporting Hedland Well Women’s Centre’s important work in the region.

The announcement builds on the Cook Labor Government’s record investment in health and mental health services, with an unprecedented $14.3 billion in additional funding since 2021.

If re-elected, WA Labor will also deliver the biggest ever expansion of the popular Patient Assisted Travel Scheme, directly benefitting Pilbara patients who need to travel for treatment.
