A re-elected Cook Labor Government will invest almost $20 million to support the health of the Peel-Harvey Estuary, protecting this vital waterway for generations to come.

Announced today, WA Labor will extend funding for the Bindjareb-Djilba Protection Plan for the estuary until 2029.

The plan sets out management goals to improve the water-quality of the Peel-Harvey estuary from the effects of climate change, urban development and industry.

$5 million will go towards the rollout of the plan including water monitoring, revegetation and fencing, while a further $5 million will be invested in a community grants program, supporting local projects that deliver nutrient reduction and river restoration.

In addition, $9.7 million will fund infill sewerage for homes in Falcon, reducing reliance on septic tanks which can pose an environmental risk.

This funding is expected to upgrade around 150 properties – significantly reducing contaminants to the Peel-Harvey Estuary.
