  • Re-elected Cook Labor Government to fund $186 million sporting infrastructure boost
  • Almost 50 community sport and recreation projects in Perth and regional WA to benefit
  • WA Labor committed to funding quality sporting infrastructure for Western Australians

A re-elected Cook Labor Government will invest $186 million towards a range of infrastructure projects to improve community sport and recreation facilities for Western Australians right across the State.

WA Labor’s Sport and Recreation Infrastructure package will provide significant funding for a raft of projects being developed by local governments and sporting clubs and associations.

The funding will support both upgrades to existing facilities and help get proposed projects out of the blocks, boosting access to sport and recreation in growing local communities.

Major infrastructure projects to be supported by a re-elected Cook Labor Government include:

  • $20 million towards a redevelopment of the Willetton Sports and Community Centre, including new changerooms, a new home for the local RSL, netball and bowling club upgrades, community hall and facilities;
  • $20 million towards new hardcourts, a gym, cafe and other facilities at Armadale Recreation Centre;
  • $20 million towards a new Peel Netball Centre; and
  • $8 million towards new sporting and mixed-use facilities at Prinsep Park in Jandakot to cater for the area’s growing residential population.

WA Labor’s Sport and Recreation Infrastructure package builds on the Cook Labor Government’s unprecedented investment in local infrastructure to help more Western Australians play sport and stay connected to their communities, including through the expanded Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund.

Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:

β€œSporting clubs are the lifeblood of our local and regional communities, bringing people together and providing opportunities to stay active and engaged.

β€œWe want every Western Australian to have opportunities to participate in sport and recreation that they enjoy.

β€œLocal clubs are the key to getting more people involved, which is why we are committing $186 million to sport and recreation infrastructure projects right across the State.

β€œNo other government in WA history has provided more support for community-level sporting infrastructure, and if re-elected, I look forward to working with local clubs and organisations to deliver the infrastructure their communities need.”
