Cook Labor Government to deliver historic funding boost for the RSPCA

The RSPCA will receive its biggest ever funding boost under a re-elected Cook Labor Government, supporting the organisation’s important work to protect animals across WA.
  • RSPCA funding to increase from $1.3 million to $7 million per annum
  • Investment to support the expansion of RSPCA’s vital animal welfare services across WA
  • Commitment in contrast to the Opposition’s promise to defund the RSPCA

The RSPCA will receive its biggest ever funding boost under a re-elected Cook Labor Government, supporting the organisation’s important work to protect animals across WA.

Announced today, the commitment will see government funding for the RSPCA significantly increase, from $1.3 million to $7 million each year.

The $21.3 million total investment will allow the RSPCA to provide vital animal care, rehabilitation and veterinary services for animals in strife.

In addition, the number of inspectors at the RSPCA will almost triple, with 31 extra employees to conduct inspections and enforce animal welfare laws.

The funding will allow the staff to conduct inspections as teams of two, rather than alone, to improve security.

The RSPCA’s call centre will also be scaled up to keep pace with demand, with a 76% increase in call volumes since 2016.

Today’s commitment builds on the Cook Labor Government’s proven track record of support for the RSPCA, with a 2021 election commitment to double the organisation’s funding already delivered.

In contrast, the Opposition has promised to cease funding for the RSPCA, cutting this important community service and leaving animal welfare needs unmet.

Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:

“My Government is committed to supporting the RSPCA to support animals, by providing them with the resources and staff they need.

“Today’s historic $21.3 million investment recognises the invaluable work of RSPCA inspectors, allowing them to conduct more animal welfare inspections across the State and improving safety conditions."

“Only a WA Labor Government will invest in the future of the RSPCA.”
